Spring Gallery

Early snowdrops tend to give the first hint that spring is on its way, soon followed by daffodils, crocuses and the carpets of scilla that are a particular feature of Hergest Croft.

Hellebores make an early appearance in the Spring Border, gradually giving way to a riot of colour beneath the ancient apple trees. Around the Croft and throughout the Maple Grove, magnolias flower in all their showy glory between March and early May, and just as they are beginning to fade, the azaleas take the limelight in just about every colour imaginable and producing a heady and wonderful fragrance.

Massive rhododendrons will tower over you as you lose yourself in Park Wood: a few varieties can be found as early as January but for the full and abundant display, May is the best time to visit. The images below were taken in March, April and May.
